Weekend Trading Availability

The forex market closes at Friday 22:00 UTC and reopens Sunday 22:00 UTC — a 48-hour gap. For traders who want continuous market exposure, weekend trading options matter.

Tier 1: Full Weekend Trading (Forex + Indices + Crypto)

Only IG offers weekend forex (GBP/USD OTC), weekend indices (Wall Street, Germany 40), and crypto 24/7. This is unique in the EU-regulated broker space — no other broker provides weekend forex or index pricing.

Tier 2: Crypto-Only Weekend Trading

27 brokers offer crypto CFDs 24/7 as their only weekend trading option. Range varies dramatically: Capital.com (200+ crypto CFDs), Eightcap (100+ via Crypto Crusher), XTB (43), Vantage (40), Swissquote (37 including real crypto), and at the low end Interactive Brokers (4 via Paxos) and Forex.com (6).

Tier 3: No Weekend Trading

Trading 212is the only broker with zero weekend trading capability. It does not offer crypto CFDs, and the Invest account's real crypto is exchange-hours only. If weekend market access matters, Trading 212 is not suitable.

Pre-Market & After-Hours Stock Trading

6 brokers provide stock trading beyond standard exchange hours. This matters for European traders reacting to US earnings releases (typically announced 21:00–22:00 UTC, after the regular session closes).

BrokerExtended Hours Window (UTC)Scope
IGWeekend index trading (Sat 08:00 – Sun 21:40 UTC), All Sessions stock tradingWeekend indices, All Sessions stocks
Saxo BankPre-market/after-hours for US stocks (08:00–01:00 UTC)36 exchanges, US pre/after-hours
Interactive BrokersFull pre-market (04:00 UTC) and after-hours (01:00 UTC) for US stocks. 90+ exchanges globally.90+ exchanges, US pre/after-hours, real futures
XTBPre-market US stocks from 10:00 UTC, after-hours to 01:00 UTCUS stocks only, xStation 5
SwissquotePre-market US stocks available for real stock tradingUS stocks (real stock trading)
Trading 212Pre-market/after-hours for US stocks (Invest account)US stocks (Invest account only)

Interactive Brokers provides the widest extended-hours window (04:00–01:00 UTC for US stocks — 21 hours of trading coverage vs the standard 6.5-hour session). For European traders who trade US earnings, this is a significant advantage. Saxo Bank and XTB offer similar capability with fewer exchanges.

Platform Timezone Analysis

Platform timezone affects how daily candles form, when daily swaps are charged, and how session boundaries are displayed. This matters for technical analysis and swap management.

TimezoneBrokersWhy It Matters
EET (UTC+2 / +3 DST)Pepperstone, XM, BlackBull Markets, Forex.com, Tickmill, Equiti, Fusion Markets, Admirals, FxPro, Axi, Eightcap, AvaTrade, RoboForex, Vantage Markets, FXTM, IC MarketsIndustry standard for MT4/MT5. Daily candle closes at midnight New York time (00:00 EET = 22:00 UTC = 17:00 ET). 5 weekday candles with no Sunday stub candle.
GMT/BST (UTC / +1 DST)eToro, IG, CMC Markets, Plus500, OANDA, Exness, Capital.com, Trading 212UK-headquartered brokers. Daily candle closes at 22:00 GMT (17:00 ET). Creates a short Sunday candle (2 hours) which some technical analysts dislike for weekly analysis.
UTC (GMT+0, no DST)eToro, OANDA, Exness, Capital.comNo DST adjustment simplifies scheduling. Creates a 2-hour Sunday candle. eToro, Capital.com, and OANDA use this consistently.
CET (UTC+1 / +2 DST)XTB, Saxo Bank, SwissquoteCentral European time. Aligns with Eurozone business hours. Daily candle closes at 23:00 CET (22:00 UTC).
ET (UTC-5 / -4 DST)FXCMUS Eastern Time. Uncommon for European traders. Daily candle closes at 17:00 ET. Can be confusing for CET/EET-based traders managing sessions.
User-configurableSaxo Bank, Plus500, Interactive BrokersAllows traders to set their preferred timezone in the platform UI. Best for multi-timezone traders or those who prefer local time display.

Instrument Range by Asset Class

More instruments do not automatically mean better — but for traders in non-London timezones (Nordic, CEE, Mediterranean), broader coverage means more tradable opportunities during local business hours when specific regional markets are active.

Decision Framework: Which Broker Fits Your Schedule?

Weekday scalper / day trader

Top pick: Pepperstone, IC Markets

Standard forex hours are sufficient. What matters is execution speed and tight spreads during London/NY sessions — not extended hours.

Weekend crypto trader

Top pick: Capital.com, Eightcap, XTB

24/7 crypto with the widest instrument range. Capital.com leads with 200+ crypto CFDs; Eightcap follows with 100+ via Crypto Crusher.

US earnings trader (European timezone)

Top pick: Interactive Brokers, Saxo Bank

Pre-market/after-hours US stock access is essential for reacting to earnings releases announced outside regular session hours.

Multi-asset swing trader

Top pick: IG, Saxo Bank, CMC Markets

Broadest instrument range + near-24h index trading + weekend options. IG is the only broker with weekend forex and index CFDs.

Nordic / CEE timezone trader

Top pick: XTB, IG, Pepperstone

CET/EET platform timezone aligns with local business hours. XTB is Warsaw-headquartered; IG and Pepperstone offer EET/CET server time.

Passive / set-and-forget investor

Top pick: Trading 212, eToro

Weekend trading is irrelevant for long-term positions. Trading 212 and eToro offer commission-free stock/ETF investing with mobile-first UX.

Professional multi-exchange trader

Top pick: Interactive Brokers

90+ exchanges globally, real futures and options, full pre-market/after-hours. No other EU-accessible broker matches IBKR for exchange coverage.

Partner Transparency

FX-Brokers.eu earns affiliate commission from Pepperstone and BlackBull Markets. This does not affect their scores or ranking — both are scored on the same criteria as every other broker. IG, Saxo Bank, and Interactive Brokers score higher on trading hours but are not commercial partners.

Pepperstone

FX-Brokers.eu Markets Desk. "Forex Broker Trading Hours & Market Access Comparison — June 2026." fx-brokers.eu/research/broker-trading-hours. Accessed [date].

Methodology

Trading hours data was collected from each broker's official website, product specification pages, platform help documentation, and contract specification PDFs. All data was verified during the week of 10–14 June 2026 by checking live platform product schedules.

Score components (equal weight): (1) Forex pair range relative to the 29-broker average; (2) Index, commodity, and stock CFD breadth; (3) Crypto 24/7 availability and range; (4) Weekend trading beyond crypto (bonus for forex/index weekend); (5) Extended-hours stock trading availability; (6) Platform timezone flexibility. IG scores highest primarily because it is the only broker with weekend forex and index trading — a structurally unique offering.

Limitations: Instrument counts change frequently as brokers add or remove products. Holiday schedules vary year to year. Crypto CFD availability may differ between EU and non-EU entities of the same broker. Trading hours for exotic pairs and minor indices may differ from the majors-focused hours listed here. This comparison covers CFD and forex trading hours — real stock, futures, and options trading hours at Interactive Brokers and Saxo Bank may differ.
