1-Minute RSI Scalp Strategy
Rules, Examples & Best EU Brokers · April 2026
A high-frequency scalping system that targets rapid 5-15 pip mean-reversion moves on the 1-minute chart of the most liquid forex pairs. The strategy uses an RSI extreme reading combined with a moving average filter to fade short-term spikes against the prevailing trend. Scalpers typically take 20-40 trades per day, each lasting between 30 seconds and 5 minutes, harvesting small consistent profits that accumulate into a substantial daily P&L thanks to the compounding effect of high frequency.

How This Strategy Works
You watch the 1-minute chart of EUR/USD or another major pair during the high-liquidity London or New York sessions. The RSI is set to a 5-period (much faster than the standard 14) to capture extreme intraday spikes. When the RSI prints above 80, the pair is overbought on a micro timescale and you sell; when it prints below 20, you buy. The 200 EMA on the same 1-minute chart acts as a directional filter - you only take RSI buy signals when price is above the 200 EMA, and only RSI sell signals when below. This prevents you from fading the dominant micro-trend, which is the single biggest cause of failed scalping strategies. Each trade aims for 5-15 pips, with a stop tighter than the spread + 8 pips, requiring an ECN broker with raw spreads under 0.3 pips on EUR/USD to be viable.

Entry Rules
Follow these rules exactly, in order, before taking a position.
- 1
Open the 1-minute chart of a major forex pair with raw spread under 0.3 pips during London or New York sessions
- 2
Apply the RSI(5) and the 200 EMA
- 3
For a long entry: RSI drops below 20 AND price is above the 200 EMA AND a bullish 1-minute candle closes
- 4
For a short entry: RSI rises above 80 AND price is below the 200 EMA AND a bearish 1-minute candle closes
- 5
Enter immediately on the close of the confirmation candle - hesitation is fatal in scalping
- 6
Skip any signal that occurs within 5 minutes of a scheduled news release (use the economic calendar)
Exit Rules
Pre-define your exit strategy before entry to remove emotional decision making.
- 1
Take profit at +8 pips fixed (this is your daily statistical edge per trade)
- 2
Cut the trade immediately if RSI returns to 50 without hitting your target - the edge has dissipated
- 3
Hard stop loss at -5 pips, no exceptions, no widening
- 4
Close all positions 15 minutes before any major news release on the calendar
- 5
Stop trading after 3 consecutive losses or when daily loss limit (-2% of account) is reached
Risk Management
Proper risk management is the difference between a profitable strategy and a losing one.
Stop Loss
Fixed 5 pips below entry for longs, above for shorts. With raw spreads of 0.1-0.2 pips and tight commissions, this allows the strategy to maintain a positive expectancy at 60% win rate hitting 8 pip targets.
Take Profit
Fixed 8 pips. Do not get greedy - the edge is in the high frequency and consistent execution, not in catching big moves. Aim for 1.6:1 reward to risk per trade and accept that you will trade 30+ times per day to harvest the edge.
Risk-Reward
1:1.6 fixed, requires 60%+ win rate
